With so many flash diffusers on the market today, it can be difficult to choose a diffuser that works best for you. People often ask questions about the size, design, brand, etc. All these factors affect the decision when buying a light modifier. So, what is the best flash diffuser? The answer lies in the type of photography you do. What is good for a macro photographer may not necessarily work best for taking pictures at a wedding. Light modifiers for off-camera speedlights can be very different from what is the best for on-camera use. In this article, we tried to rate the number of light modifiers from the perspective of finding the best all-around flash diffuser. We did it by looking at the different aspects of each unit (like ease of use, build quality, etc.) and rating them independently. The final score is a weighted average of these ratings. Please note that the flash diffusers listed here are great for on-camera applications, and the majority of them works really well off camera, too. However, often for the off-camera flash photography, you would want something larger to achieve even softer shadows.
