Demb Flash Diffuser (Flip-it!) test: new design vs. old design

The purpose of this review is to show the differences in the results produced by the new and old designs of Demb Flash Diffuser (best flash diffuser rating: 8.72) and Demb Flip-it! flash reflector (best flash diffuser rating: 8.63).

The sample images are taken in a setting where the distances from the camera to the mannequin, from the mannequin to the ceiling, left and right walls are about 4 feet. The ceiling and walls are light colored. Flash zoom is set at 50mm.

As you can see, the shadows created by the new Demb design have slightly softer edges than shadows created by the older models. In our setup, the shadows are also "more filled" when using the new reflector, because there is less light reflected forward. So, the light bounced off of the ceiling fills the shadows more. Our measurements show that the difference in the "forward" light between the two designs is within 1/2 stop.

Also, the angles of the shadows prove that the new Demb modifiers raise the light higher then the old ones, as we mention in our comparison review
