According to Metz, its new Metz Mecablitz 44 AF-1 digital flash is getting a lot of pre-orders that exceed expectations. Mecablitz 44 AF-1 is an amateur level flash that delivers quite a few features including full TTL compatibility, manual mode, motor zoom head (12-105 mm), wireless slave function, catchlight card, etc.

With Guide Number of 44 (at ISO 100/21 and 105mm), Metz Mecablitz 44 AF-1 digital flash has enough power to be bounced off of walls/ceilings and used with flash diffusers.

This flash is not short of other functions, as well. The interface of Metz 44 AF-1 is very simplified. The stylish and modern-looking LED buttons are easy to use, but (similar to Bower SFD728 flash), some functions are only accessible through on-camera menus (such as exposure compensation or second curtain synchronization, for example).

Similar to Canon Speedlite 270EX II, when set as a wireless slave, Metz Mecablitz 44 AF-1 always belongs to Group A, and it is triggered by all channels.

With the impressive list of features and expected moderate price, Metz Mecablitz 44 AF-1 digital flash is an attractive buy for many photography enthusiasts.

Demand exceeds expectations

Metz mecablitz 44 AF-1 digital

Within a few weeks of its launch in December 2010, the new mecablitz 44 AF-1 digital had successfully established itself on the flash unit market. The number of pre-orders for the system flash unit, which was launched at photokina 2010, even exceeded what were already high expectations. "The 44 AF-1 digital is particularly popular with committed amateur photographers. It represents an entirely new performance class for Metz one that is ideally equipped for current developments in the photography market. According to Gnter Kiener, Metz director of sales, this is the reason behind such high demand.

Powerful and flexible, yet elegant

The mecablitz 44 AF-1 digital impresses with its high performance (guide number 44 for ISO 100/21 and 105 mm), elegant design and individual fine tuning options for creative lighting. A straightforward control panel with illuminated keys on the reverse of the unit makes the device exceptionally easy to use. Numerous features such as fully automatic zoom, integrated wide-angle diffuser for 12 mm illumination, a flip-out reflector card and a USB interface for rapid software updates complete the system flash unit. The Metz mecablitz 44 AF-1 digital is perfectly tailored to Canon, Nikon, Olympus/Panasonic, Pentax and Sony.

Creative lighting for exceptional pictures

The mecablitz 44 AF-1 digitals numerous functions afford precise light output tailored to each individual subject. The fully swivelling reflector system with flip-out reflector card is perfect for bouncing flash. Furthermore, the integrated wide-angle diffuser is ideally suited for illumination of wide-angle focal lengths from 12 mm (135 format). Thanks to the slave function, the new system flash unit can even be used in TTL mode without constraints, depending on the camera model. The four partial lighting levels can be adjusted on the reverse of the unit allowing the photographer to alter the brightness in manual mode according to personal taste.

Different versions for Canon, Nikon, Olympus/Panasonic, Pentax and Sony

It goes without saying that the respective camera manufacturers sophisticated flash lighting technology can also be employed with the appropriate version of the mecablitz 44 AF-1 digital, in addition to various special functions, such as first and second shutter curtain synchronisation (subject to camera). Thus the 44 AF-1 digital offers E-TTL and E-TTL II flash mode for Canon, i-TTL for Nikon, P-TTL for Pentax, four thirds TTL for Olympus/Panasonic and ADI for Sony. So that the unit always has the latest software, updates can be carried out conveniently via the Internet even after purchase, over the Metz mecablitz 44 AF-1 digitals USB interface. Therefore, the flash remains fully compatible with any new camera models launched on the market.
