"The Canon Speedlite 580EX II flashgun is a professional quality device. It is solid and sturdy. Quality of the materials is very good. The unit is weather sealed, which adds to the appeal as well. The unit is huge. It's quite of a load in one's gear bag and it does take space..."

Did anyone happen to try 580ex II connected via PC sync in master mode?
It wouldn't fire for me at all in manual mode, and I had trouble firing slaves
(~1 sec. delay) in TTL mode. With wireless turned off it worked fine.
Wonder if it was a defective unit or sync cable. Manual says nothing about it.

You can't use it as a master with the PC sync cord.

Regarding the review:

If you have a camera that's compatible with the settings, you can see the meaning of the custom functions on the camera's menu screen.
The display on the flash does start blinking with the diffuser out only if the flash is tilted. They assume that if you tilt you don't need the diffuser, as the idea with the diffuser is to fill a wide frame when firing straight at the subject.
